What is a CSA?
What is Foodshed CSA Greenwich?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a partnership between consumers and local farmers where members purchase a share of the farm's harvest in advance, in exchange for regular deliveries of fresh produce throughout the season.
What are some of the benefits of subscribing to Foodshed CSA?
Why is subscribing to a CSA important?
Purchasing food from Connecticut farmers is one of the most impactful actions you can take towards transforming the industrial food system into one that is regional, resilient and regenerative. CSA’s strengthen food security, for everyone, by providing opportunities for residents to support and invest in Connecticut’s farmers and food economy. CSA subscriptions support:
Farmland preservation.
Provides a reliable market for farmers.
Connecticut’s food and agricultural economy and culture.
Health for people, soil and natural ecosystems.
Food security for future generations.
An alternative to the industrial food system.
Relationship and connection between farmer and consumer.
Builds relationships between farmers and Greenwich residents.
Raises revenue for TFN which is critical to the sustainability of the program.
Advances TFN’s mission.
Enables members of the community, with the means to do so, to provide farm fresh vegetables and fruit to low income residents.
Farmers working with the Northwest CT Food Hub (NCT FH) use growing practices that reflect the region’s commitment to soil health, environmental stewardship, and high-quality local food. The majority are small-to mid-scale producers who prioritize regenerative and sustainable methods—such as crop rotation, reduced tillage, integrated pest management, and responsible water use—to maintain resilient farmland and protect local ecosystems. Many farms are certified organic or follow organic principles even without formal certification, ensuring minimal synthetic inputs and a focus on nutrient-dense, seasonal produce. These practices not only strengthen long-term farm viability but also align with community values for healthy food and a thriving regional food system.
