Due to a rising cost of living coinciding with a decrease in safety-net benefits, food insecurity rates are climbing. Connecticut currently faces the highest rate of food insecurity in New England, a challenge compounded by an 11% decline in state SNAP participation. While Greenwich’s official poverty rate is relatively low at roughly 7%, an additional 27% of residents fall below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold. These families are often just one missed paycheck or unexpected medical bill away from financial distress, directly impacting their ability to afford sufficient groceries. Because access to fresh, local food remains out of reach for many Greenwich residents, Foodshed CSA seeks to bridge that gap.
