GFA advocates for policy that fosters the redistribution of resources, opportunity and power into communities, most notably, communities of color that throughout history and today are overwhelmingly impacted by the industrial food system.

Through story, data, education and community engagement, GFA organizes around the policies that uphold and demonstrate what a ‘transformed’ food system might and could be. Our primary policies support food and land access for everyone.

GFA FOOD POLICY
PLATFORM 2026

In 2026 GFA focuses its advocacy on state legislation that provides universal no-cost school breakfasts to all students in Connecticut and provides universal no-cost school lunches for all students who are eligible for free or reduced priced lunches in the state. Governor Lamont included a similar line item in his FY2026 budget, however, the line item was removed by the Appropriations Committee. The funding removal, combined with the end of ARPA funds, was a set back in food security progress for Connecticut's students. The Governor’s Proposed FY27 Budget (H.B. 5032) reintroduces funding to support universal no-cost breakfast for all public-school students in CT and universal no-cost lunch for all public-school students who qualify for reduced cost lunches.
